Ah Copenhagen, the city that gave us the prolific Scandi design trend, hygge, and a lot of impossibly good looking, leggy, blonde people. Once an ill-fated port city that kept burning down in the 1700s, the Danish capital is now synonymous with effortless coolness, a world-class dining scene (hello Noma), and incredibly high scores year after year on the World Happiness Index.

From Goya to Guernica, football to flamenco, skyscrapers to street art - Madrid is an always moving metropolis that contains layers of multitudes. It’s a beguiling mix of old and new, an epicentre for both business and creativity, and boasts world-class museums that are on any art lover’s bucket list.

Above and beyond all that though, it’s a really great place to have a drink.

We know that Rome is one of those places that seems totally unmanageable to do thoroughly in a few days. With its storied history, an entire bucket-list’s worth of sights, and some pretty good eatin’ along the way, you’ll probably be tempted to do and see it all while you’re here.

So we’re just going to give it to you straight: wipe that thought from your mind. There is no conceivable way to do “all” of Rome in a few days, or even in a few lifetimes.

Eight years ago, the then-forgotten town of Margate wouldn’t have even made a blip on travellers’ radars. Today, this seaside resort couldn’t be further from its days of dereliction. A massive regeneration project started in 2011 has planted this colourful, unhurried spot firmly back on the map as a must-visit destination for art, independent shopping and local gastronomy – all within easy reach of London.

Right away, the title of this film conjures up a vaguely ominous, if not romantic picture, and A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night delivers just that, but not in the way you would expect.

From breakout director Ana Lily Amirpour comes this poignant if not slightly confounding film, presented like a lovechild of Giant and Nosferatu, with a strong albeit murderous female lead.

While I may have come for the slumber party nostalgia and killer aesthetics, I stayed for something deeper—in all these stories, the girls and women fought their demons (both real and metaphorical) by invoking powers within themselves to control and make peace with the often cruel world around them. Scrolling through my Instagram search page has revealed that my friends and I aren’t the only ones with whom these themes resonate; it seems that over the last year or so, many young people (especially, but certainly not exclusively young women) are turning more and more to spirituality, the occult, and so-called New Age practices of astrology, mindfulness, and meditation.
